Why we run (even when it’s raining): Stories from the Revive Run Club
Share
Being truthful, there are Thursday evenings when the clouds roll in and the sofa calls louder than the streets. But somehow, the Revive Run Club crew always shows up. Rain or shine, there’s something about lacing up and heading out as a group that pulls you in - and keeps you coming back.

This weekend, we completed the Two Castles Run
On Saturday, a few of us took on the Two Castles Run – a stunning 10K race between Warwick Castle and Kenilworth Castle. It’s one of the Midlands’ most iconic running events and a brilliant marker of how far our little community has come.
For me (Georgia), it was a huge personal moment. Not just for finishing the race – but for everything it represented. Running that race, surrounded by our Revive crew, reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. I’m so proud of the team, of myself, and of what we’re building together. It’s also a milestone in my own mental health story – I’ve been gradually stepping away from medication, and running has helped ground me through the transition. I want to show my little boy that looking after your mind and your body is something we do with love, not punishment. That’s the example I want to set.
We show up - for ourselves and each other
It’s never just about the run. Whether we’re dodging puddles in Allesley or crossing finish lines in castle towns, we’re moving forward – together. And that community? It’s everything.
“The vibe on Saturday was unreal! I joined the Run Club for a bit of fitness and fresh air, but I’ve ended up with a second family. Cheering each other on, pacing together, laughing through the hills – it makes it all so much more than just exercise.” – Beckie, Revive member
One of our members, Amy, moved to Coventry last year not knowing a soul. Now? She rarely misses a Thursday evening Run Club session. For her, the running has been great – but it’s the friendships that have truly made a difference. Grabbing a coffee mid-week at the Milk Bar or popping over to The Rainbow for a quick drink with the gang has become a regular part of her routine. It’s not just about the miles – it’s about the laughs, the chats, and that sense of belonging that carries you through the week.
“It’s honestly changed everything. I’ve found my people here. We run, we laugh, we chat nonsense over lattes… It’s just good for the soul.”
That’s what Run Club is really about – connection, community, and feeling like you belong.
At a time when so many of us are juggling stress, responsibilities and a thousand tabs open in our heads, that hour a week we give to running can be a real reset.
Why running together just hits different
There’s something about group runs that makes it all feel easier – even when it isn’t.
You’re laughing between lampposts, moaning together about that one brutal hill, and before you know it, the miles have flown by.
- It lifts your mood – Not just because of the endorphins (though they help), but because being around people who get it makes a difference.
- You actually show up – Let’s be honest, it’s way harder to bail when someone’s waiting for you at the start line with a grin and a “come on, let’s go”.
- You go further, without thinking about it – That bit you usually walk? You’ll probably jog it. Just because everyone else is.
- You feel part of something – And that matters. Especially when life feels busy, loud or a bit lonely.
The Run Club isn’t about times or trophies. It’s about taking up space, feeling proud of your body, and finding people who cheer when you do.

FAQs
What’s so great about running in a group?
It’s the difference between “ugh, I should go for a run” and “I’ll see you there!” You’re more likely to turn up, more likely to enjoy it, and more likely to push yourself (just a little). Plus, running feels way less effort when you’re chatting your way through it.
What actually makes a run club work?
It’s not about pace or PBs – it’s about people. A good run club feels welcoming from the get-go, cheers for every finish (not just the fastest), and gives you a reason to keep coming back. At Revive, we keep it relaxed, inclusive and full of good vibes.
Why join the Revive Run Club?
Because it’s totally free, genuinely friendly, and you don’t need to be ‘a runner’ to come along. Just show up on a Saturday morning (check the timetable for dates and times), and we’ll look after the rest. You’ll build fitness, find your rhythm, and maybe even make some mates along the way.
Is it true I’ll run better with a group?
Honestly? Yes. When you’ve got someone beside you, the tough bits feel easier, the pace feels smoother, and before you know it, you’ve gone further than you would’ve solo. It’s like a secret running superpower – without the cape.
