I’ll be honest - when I first heard about Hyrox training, I wasn’t sure what to think. Another fitness trend? A glorified obstacle course? But after giving it a go, I realised it’s a total game-changer.
If you’re already smashing your workouts but feel like you’re stuck in a bit of a rut, being part of a Hyrox gym is exactly what you need to push past that plateau. It’s tough, it’s sweaty, and it’s the kind of challenge that makes you want to come back for more.

Why Hyrox? The Missing Piece in Your Training
We’ve all been there. You’re training regularly, lifting weights, maybe throwing in some HIIT or bootcamp sessions, but something still feels… off. You’re strong, but do you have the endurance to back it up? Or maybe you’ve got the cardio down, but adding resistance leaves you wobbling like a baby deer. That’s where Hyrox changes the game.
Unlike a standard gym session, where you focus on either strength or cardio, Hyrox blends both seamlessly. Think running mixed with sled pushes, burpees, lunges, and more. It’s designed to push your limits, test your mental grit, and build you into an all-round athlete. It doesn’t matter if you’re used to lifting heavy or smashing out sprints – Hyrox forces you to get comfortable being uncomfortable. And that’s where real progress happens.
The Hyrox Exercises That’ll Push You to Your Limits
“HYROX combines both running & functional workout stations, where participants run 1km, followed by 1 functional workout station, repeated eight times.”
Let me break this down for you:
- Sled Push & Pull – This one’s all about leg power and stamina. Drive through your legs, stay low, and focus on maintaining momentum—slow, heavy pushes will drain your energy fast.
- Burpee Broad Jumps – First, get comfortable with burpees. Then, start adding that explosive jump forward. The key is pacing—go too hard at the start, and you’ll burn out fast.
- Rowing – It’s not just about pulling hard; efficiency is everything. Use your legs, engage your core, and settle into a steady rhythm to keep your energy up.
- Wall Balls – Squat deep, drive through your heels, and launch the ball with power. Aim for consistency over speed—rushed reps will tire you out quicker.
- Farmers Carry – Grip strength will make or break this one. Hold the weights tight, keep your shoulders down, and control your breathing as you walk.
Hyrox vs. CrossFit: Which is Tougher?
I get asked this all the time. Is Hyrox harder than CrossFit? The answer? It depends.
- CrossFit is about lifting heavy, explosive power, and technical skills like snatches and muscle-ups.
- Hyrox is about endurance, willpower, and holding a steady pace while everything in your body screams at you to stop.
My takeaway – if you love Olympic lifting, gymnastics, and short bursts of intensity, CrossFit might be your thing. But if you want a grind-it-out challenge that pushes endurance and mental resilience, Hyrox is for you.
Who Can Do Hyrox? (Hint: Probably You)
One of the best things about Hyrox? It’s for everyone. You don’t need to be a pro athlete, just someone willing to work. There are different levels:
- Open – Perfect if you’re new but up for a challenge.
- Pro – Heavier weights, tougher standards.
- Doubles – Share the pain with a mate!
No matter where you start, Hyrox will make you better. Stronger, faster, tougher. And honestly? It’s just a lot of fun.

From Competitor to Coach: Why I Brought Hyrox to Revive
I’ll be honest – when I signed up for my first Hyrox event, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I thought, I train hard, I do HIIT, I lift weights… how hard can it be? Turns out, very hard. That first event humbled me in the best way. The mix of strength, endurance, and positive mindset it took to get through every station was like nothing I’d ever done before.
But here’s the thing – I want to do it again!
After that first race, I couldn’t stop thinking about how much stronger and fitter I felt, not just in training but in everyday life. My endurance improved, my recovery was quicker, and not forgetting how proud I was of myself and my comp team!
That’s when I knew without doubt – this needed to be part of Revive. I knew our members would love the challenge and the insane feeling of accomplishment that comes with it. So, we are making it happen. Now, Hyrox training is here, and I get to watch others experience that same fire for pushing their limits.
